State

In 1992 the Florida legislature passed the William E. Sadowski Affordable Housing Act. Funding comes from a portion of documentary stamp taxes on deeds and supports two programs that supplement the state's WAP: State Housing Initiatives Partnership, which funds weatherization measures; and the Low-Income Emergency Home Repair Program, which funds emergency and energy-related home repairs. Senior Citizen's/Disabled American Veteran's Discount
To be eligible, applicants must be 62 years or older or totally or permanently disabled American Veteran. Annual income must not exceed $17,196 per household. Applications are accepted through March 31; must reapply each year.

Good Neighbor Program
This program provides immediate and long-term financial assistance to income-qualified customers that are senior citizens age 65 and older, families with children under the age of five, and disabled persons living independently. It is designed to help qualified customers during the peak heating and cooling months of the year when the need is greatest. The program offers: a 25% credit to electric service each month as funds are available.

Tampa Electric SHARE Tampa Electric Share funds help pay for basic home energy expenses. Eligibility is determined by the Salvation Army.

Neighborhood Weatherization
The program is made possible through a partnership with Tampa Hillsborough Action Plan (THAP), a non-profit agency that distributes Tampa Electric- provided energy-saving kits at no cost. To qualify, your total household income may not be more than 200 percent above the national poverty level. Preference is given to elderly (60 years-plus) or physically disabled residents, families with children under 12 and households with a high energy burden (repeated high utility bills).

Citizens Utility Relief Effort (C.U.R.E.)
Provides assistance to utility customers who are unable to pay their bill. The fund may be used in the event of loss of employment or an unexpected illness or injury. Guidelines set the criteria for extending assistance and limit access to these funds to $100 during a 12 month period.

Preference is given to applicants 60 years of age and older or who are handicapped or disabled to the extent that they are not economically self-sufficient. Call United Way of North Central Florida's 2-1-1 helpline and you will be referred to one of the agencies that distribute Project Share funds.
