State

The regulated natural gas provider program, provided by SCANA Energy and partially funded by the state’s universal service fund, provides natural gas service to low income households and to consumers who are unable to obtain or maintain natural gas service from another marketer. Households meeting the low-income requirements established by the Georgia Department of Human Resources qualify for a reduced security deposit, special rates and a lower customer service fee.

To sign up, customers need to contact the community action agency serving their county. Those not meeting low-income requirements may still qualify for service with the Regulated Provider. Call 1-866-245-7742 for complete details.

Emergency Charitable Assistance

Please note these charitable funds are last resort emergency funds with limited resources and limited times of operation.

The Heating Energy Assistance Team (HEAT), Inc
HEAT is the oldest statewide fuel fund program in Georgia, which assists qualifying residents regardless of their energy source – natural gas, electricity, propane, oil, wood, coal, etc. HEAT began in 1983 when Atlanta Gas Light joined forces with Frances F. Pauley, an advocate for the poor, to form a team providing low-income citizens with much-needed help for energy costs. With the deregulation of Georgia’s natural gas industry, HEAT became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in May 2000. Funds are raised through partnerships with concerned citizens, energy companies, state government, corporations and other organizations. The Georgia Division of Family and Children Services distributes the money through community action agencies where residents apply at the local agency serving their county. More than $23 million has been donated and disbursed to more than 97,000 households during the past 33 years. Download the directory of community action agencies (pdf file) to find the name and number of the agency that serves your county.
