December 20, 2019 – An increase for FY 2020 funding amounts has been announced for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). FY 2020 funding has increased $50 million to $3.74 billion.
An announcement by the National Energy Assistance Director’s Association (NEADA) revealed some details into the funding release, including that the House bill includes a “hold-harmless” provision, in addition to the $50 million increase for LIHEAP.
The provision guarantees no state will receive less than ninety-seven percent of the amount of funds they receive in the prior fiscal year (2019). In the case that less than ninety-seven percent of the funds would be received by the state, the additional funds would be “made up reducing the allocation for states whose funding was not reduced below the ninety-seven percent threshold.”
