June 1, 2020 – The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) released two information memoranda regarding the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Income Guidelines. The guidelines are optional for implementation in FY20 and mandatory for implementation in FY21.
DHHS’s first memorandum outlines the new federal poverty guidelines for LIHEAP, and the second memorandum outlines the new state median income estimates. Both are available on the Office of Community Service’s (OCS) website.
The memorandums also include explanation of methodology used to calculate new income guidelines and provides statute definitions for terminology associated with guideline changes.
