Applications are now being accepted for LIHEAP in Kansas. The state began taking applications December 28 and will continue until March 31, or until funding is depleted.
Residents can apply online or by mail. The Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, the LIHEAP grantee, says online applications won't be processed until starting January 13, but getting them in early will help recipients get benefits sooner.
The program provides an annual benefit for qualifying households, primarily helping people with disabilities, the elderly and families with children. Last year nearly 51,000 households received an average benefit of roughly $715. The benefit this year hasn’t been determined.
Anyone receiving SRS benefits will automatically receive an application packet in the mail by January 13.
