Kentucky LIHEAP Helps Residents Stay Warm during New Year

January 4, 2018 – Some of the coldest winter months are still approaching and Kentucky’s Calloway County LIHEAP program is helping eligible residents stay warm. The Kentucky LIHEAP subsidy program closed in December, but the crisis program begins the second week of January.

To qualify for LIHEAP crisis assistance in Calloway County, Kentucky, a household must be within four days of running out of fuel (propane, kerosene, or wood), have received a disconnect notice or termination notice on their natural gas or electric bill, have home heating costs included as an undesignated portion of the rent and have received an eviction notice or participates in a pre-pay electric program and is within ten days or less for pre-paid electric service.

To receive assistance, an applicant will also need to bring some required documentation for the application process. Some of these required items are social security cards, proof of income for every member of the household, a copy of the lease and eviction notice if heating costs are an undesignated portion of the rent, a termination or disconnect notice for natural gas or electric and a metered utility bill to prove household residency.

Participants of the Pre-pay Electric Program must bring a statement form a utility company stating that they have ten days or less of paid service.
