January 15, 2021 – Michigan’s annual Walk for Warmth event is being hosted this year from Feb. 6 through Feb. 12 through the Ottawa County Community Action Agency. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held virtually this year, allowing participants to walk or run in an area of their choosing as opposed to the designated routes in previous years.
All proceeds of the event will we be used to provide heating assistance to households through the Mifflin-Juniata Energy Bank. Applicants age 60 and older, and veterans, are given additional assistance with applying if they have previously received a LIHEAP benefit award.
Event participants are encouraged to walk or run safely by practicing social distancing. The purpose of the event is to walk or run during cold temperatures to experience what it is like to live without heat.
