July 11, 2019 – The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Crisis Intervention Program is now providing assistance to applicants who qualify. Applicants that qualify are those who are experiencing a “crisis,” related to cooling their homes.
In North Carolina, a household is experiencing a “crisis,” if it is, “experiencing or is in danger of experiencing a life-threatening or health related emergency and sufficient, timely and appropriate assistance is not available from any other source,” according to a press release by the Economic and Family Services Division of Social Services.
“The state is experiencing extreme temperatures, and this assistance can help keep families safe and healthy,” said David Locklear, Deputy Director of the Economic and Family Services Division of Social Services.
North Carolina’s social services departments helped over 106,000 low-income households experiencing a heating or cooling crisis in FY 2018-2019.
