May 4, 2018 – Mary Lou Rosales, Executive Director of the Community Action Human Resources Agency (CAHRA), says funding is available to assist low-income Pinal County homeowners through LIHEAP weatherization services. The funding is provided by the Department of Energy and Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) through the Arizona Department of Housing (ADOH).
“Under the weatherization program, improvements are made by CAHRA to help reduce energy consumption and energy costs. A thorough assessment of the eligible home is performed including diagnostic and blower door testing to determine where the house is losing energy and what can be done to stop the loss. The auditor will also assess health and safety issues that might exist in the home. A test to determine carbon monoxide leakage is also done,” said Ms. Rosales.
Following the results of an assessment, additional weatherization repairs may be administered such as replacing old heating or cooling systems, replacing leaky ducts or insulation and replacement of inefficient appliances such as refrigerators.
These LIHEAP services could save low-income residents anywhere from 5 to 30 percent on their energy bill. Eligible families are also counseled on energy usage and energy conservation, which adds to the effectiveness of weatherizing the home.
