November 8, 2013 — Earlier this week, the Office of Community Service, Division of Energy Assistance announced the release of more than $2.93 billion in LIHEAP funds. The funds came via the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2014, which ended October's federal-government shutdown.
According to the Office of Community Service, the $2.93 billion represented 90 percent of the annual allocation provided under the Appropriations Act. The final amount of federal funding for LIHEAP in FY 2014 will be determined once the US House and US Senate finish their budgeting processes. When President Obama released his proposed budget for FY 2014, he included $3.5 billion for LIHEAP.
The funding released this week breaks down as follows.
