November 30, 2018 – Michigan’s DTE Energy has announced that they will be donating $10 million to assist low-income Michigan families in staying warm and safe during the cold winter months. The $10 million will be donated to and administered by four of Michigan’s outreach agencies: The Heat and Warmth Fund, the Salvation Army, United Way for Southwestern Michigan and TrueNorth.
The assistance can be used to help low-income families pay for their utility bills, both past and current bills. The funds can also be used to help place low-income families on DTE’s Low-Income Self Sufficiency Plan (LSP). LSP provides families in need with monthly payments based on income and energy usage.
“Lower temperatures are already upon us, so we have a great sense of urgency to assist Michigan’s most vulnerable. DTE’s $10 million donation will empower our agency partners to help our customers in need stay warm and safe not just for the holidays but year-round," said Mark Stiers, president and chief operating officer of DTE Gas, DTE Energy. “We'd like to see that every customer eligible for energy assistance is able to receive assistance."
