November 14, 2019 – The state of Rhode Island is set to get approximately $21,566,217 through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The funding will be used to keep eligible Rhode Island residents warm and safe during the cold, winter months this year. Applicants can apply on the Rhode Island Department of Human Services website.
“Each year, this vital program helps thousands of Rhode Island families to keep the heat on and stay warm. No one should have to choose between paying their heating bills and paying for other essentials like food and medicine,” said Jack Reed, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee. “As temperatures begin to drop, LIHEAP funds are a lifeline for many vulnerable Americans.”
Approximately 35,000 Rhode Island residents received assistance through LIHEAP in 2018. The average LIHEAP benefit for Rhode Island households in 2018 was $820-$850.
