September 25, 2015 — In mid-September, the Peter Cardella Senior Citizen Center in Queens announced that its residents can now sign up for multiple services, including LIHEAP, through the Single Stop Program.
The Single Stop Program will have staff visiting the Senior Center once a week to screen seniors for their eligibility for various service programs. The staffers will help seniors apply for the services and provide follow-up consults.
"It really is wonderful because a lot of times when you have all these forms and paperwork to fill out, it can take over a month and a half sometimes to enroll," said the Senior Center's Barbara Toscano. "The Single Stop Program is working really well here. It runs until November, but they might come back and do it again."
The programs seniors are screened for include SNAP, housing and rent programs, and the Home Energy Assistance Program, which is New York's LIHEAP.
