New Energy Assistance Program in VA

September 11, 2020 – The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) has a new energy assistance program called the Virginia COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program, designed to assist families affected by COVID-19 with energy assistance. The program was created with $23.4 million in CARES Act funding.

“With the moratorium on service cut-offs ending on September 16 and the financial impact of COVID-19 continuing to affect communities both across the Commonwealth and nation, it’s critical that we bolster support for families navigating this crisis with limited income or dependent household members,” said S. Duke Storen, VDSS Commissioner.

Eligible households may receive a one-time payment of $300 for energy costs, including debts accumulated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
