September 14 - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced it will award a total of $1,015,000 in Residential Energy Assistance Challenge Program (REACH) grants to the District of Columbia and Connecticut, along with four tribes and one territory. The grants will be awarded after October 1 when FY 2010 LIHEAP funding is available.
The District of Columbia will receive $350,000 and Connecticut, $385,000. The Blackfeet Nation of Montana and the Keweenaw Bay and Little River Band tribes of Michigan will each receive $60,000; the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma will receive $50,000. The Northern Mariana Islands will also receive $50,000.
This will the first round of FY 2010 REACH awards. HHS will resume its normal schedule for REACH applications with FY2010 applications to be due on March 30, 2010, followed by a second round of FY 2010 REACH awards in the spring of next year.
REACH is a competitive grant program funded through LIHEAP since 1996. Successful applications must focus on the health and safety of vulnerable households, i.e. those with elderly members, small children and disabled individuals.
