October 27, 2017 – Ohio’s Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program (E-HEAP) at Akron Summit Community Action Inc., opens for the winter season on November 1. Households in Summit County qualify for the assistance if they are at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty guideline.
E-HEAP will provide qualifying customers with a one-time payment of $175 towards a utility bill if there is a threat of disconnection, if service is new, terminated, or transferred. If less than 25% of the customer’s fuel tank remains, they may be eligible for up to $750 to fill the tank.
A benefit matrix determines customer benefit amounts. For example, a family of four with a 12-month income of $43,050 will qualify for assistance. Customers whose utility services are turned off, in need of a transfer, new service, or out of bulk fuel will be given priority for walk-in scheduling.
