November 22, 2017 – The Massachusetts Fuel Assistance program, Citizens for Citizens (CFC), runs from November 1 through April 30. Qualified applicants will receive a 25 percent discount in heat, plus fuel assistance payments. Residents using gas or electric heat may receive up to $400 to $850 off their bill for the season, and up to $1,100 for those heating with oil.
CFC is encouraging everyone to apply for heating assistance this season, even if they don’t think they’ll qualify. CFC’s director Garth Patterson says, “We’re really trying to make sure everyone applies, we’ve been down in enrollment the last couple of years.”
An estimated 14,000 to 15,000 residents have already applied for assistance and have been qualified to receive benefits. Patterson says this year CFC may receive a boost in funding, and they want to be sure that everyone applies even if they don’t think they qualify.
Applicants must meet income guidelines to receive assistance.
