March 2, 2018 – The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program in Jefferson Parish, LA held an outreach event on Friday for people to apply on a first-come first-serve basis. The event took place at the Oakdale Playground and targeted citizens with the lowest income and highest energy burden based on family size and income.
Some information provided at the outreach event included what documentation the applicants need in order to be able to apply. Required documentation includes: driver license or state ID, Social Security Cards for all members of the household, proof of residence, proof of income for all members of the household, food stamp printout from within thirty days, energy bill or disconnect notice, and household members over eighteen years of age or older with no income must complete a zero income form and have a valid ID.
For outreach efforts, many states also place flyers in county social service offices, publish articles in newspapers and other media, execute interagency agreements with other low-income program offices to perform outreach to target groups and conduct mass mailings to prior-year LIHEAP recipients. Louisiana does not participate in mass mailings or execute interagency agreements with other low-income program offices to perform outreach to target groups.
