March 30, 2018 – The Board of Commissioners in Lee County, Florida will be voting on a motion to grant an additional $63,825 to benefit the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Project (LIHEAP).
Kim Hustad, Director of Family Self-Sufficiency at Lee County Human and Veteran Services, said, “Lee County currently serves 5,000 households through the program.” Hustad says that the elderly are on of their priority groups. “The elderly would rather cut their medication in half in order to pay their electric bill,” said Hustad.
If the additional funding is passed, an additional 255 households will be able to be assisted.
