September 19, 2019 - Michigan residents who have filed for and received the 2018 MI–1040CR–7 Home Heating Credit Claim will receive an additional $22 credit towards their heating bills. The one-time credit will be applied to approximately 288,000 Michigan residents who received a home-heating credit in 2018.
The Home Heating Credit will be mailed by the Treasury via check, and the households are expected to apply the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) payment to their household heating costs. The credits will not be replaced or reissued.
The additional home-heating credit is the result of the $6.5 million federal LIHEAP block-grant funding received by Michigan. Households eligible for the heating credit do not need to do anything to receive the credit, and it will be automatically applied.
