April 27, 2020 – Ohio has made changes to their application process for those seeking energy assistance. Applicants are no longer required to visit their local Energy Assistance Office to apply. They can now request an application via mail or apply online. Those who do not have access to the internet have the option to complete their application over the phone.
“The online application, in a normal scenario, makes it easier to apply and reduces the length of an in-person appointment, but now is providing a bridge to assistance during a difficult time,” said Lydia Mihalik, Director of the Ohio Development Services Agency.
The changes have been made to accommodate the circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Required documentation for application is still required, contact your local energy assistance office for details and requirements regarding documentation requirements, as they vary from state-to-state.
To contact energy assistance offices in your area, visit the LIHEAP Clearinghouse’s State Snapshot web page.
