March 21, 2014 — The latest edition of the LIHEAP Clearinghouse's newsletter is now available online. The lead article recaps the challenges grantees have faced during the 2014 heating season. Specifically, it discusses developments like the federal-government shutdown, propane crisis, and 2014 Farm Bill. It also recaps changes some grantees made to their LIHEAPs and which states allocated supplemental funding in response to these challenges.
The Clearinghouse also used the newsletter to publicize the upcoming National Energy and Utility Affordability Conference. In Kansas City, Missouri, this June 18-20, the conference will bring together people from nonprofits, government agencies, utilities, and other institutions that provide energy assistance and efficiency to low-income families.
The sidebar included with the Clearinghouse newsletter features links to our website regarding new information and tables available for tribal grantees. These include: tribal plans and program integrity assessments; copies of tribal vendor agreements; a table showing how a sampling of tribes allocate their funding to LIHEAP program components; and a table with examples of how some tribes run their crisis programs. The sidebar also features links to two new Clearinghouse publications, a LIHEAP Primer and an issue brief about Assurance 16 activities.
